SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — Chad Brown has broken his own record for victories by a trainer in a single meet at Saratoga, earning his 41st.

Spirit Animal won the sixth race Saturday at the upstate New York track to push Brown to the mark.

Brown won 40 races to earn the trainers' title at the 2016 summer meet. Todd Pletcher tied him last year with 40 wins.

Brown has already clinched his second career title. He had more than double the wins of Pletcher, his next closest competitor, entering Saturday's card. The meet ends Monday.

Brown says that in horse racing trainers are judged by how much they win. He says his success at Saratoga is especially meaningful because he is from nearby Mechanicville, and has a lot of friends and family supporting him.

Brown has been the leading trainer on the New York Racing Association circuit for the last three years.
