Twins recall C Garver, place Grossman on 10-day DL
The Minnesota Twins recalled catcher Mitch Garver from Triple-A and placed outfielder Robbie Grossman on the 10-day disabled list, the team announced Friday.
The Twins also returned right-handed pitcher Aaron Slegers, who served as the 26th man during Thursday's doubleheader, back to Triple-A Rochester.
Grossman is sidelined with a fractured left thumb. He was injured while colliding with center fielder Byron Buxton in pursuit of a fly ball during the second inning of Thursday's nightcap.
The 26-year-old Garver will look to make his major-league debut. He's had a solid year for the Red Wings in Triple-A, posting a .291/.387/.541 slash line in 88 games. A ninth-round pick by Minnesota in 2013, Garver has 17 home runs and 45 RBI on the year.
Slegers made his MLB debut Thursday night against Cleveland, allowing just two hits and two earned runs in 6 1/3 innings. The 6-foot-10 right-hander fanned three hitters and threw 52 of his 82 pitches for strikes.
