Twins' Sano sidelined at least a few days by ankle sprain
Twins rookie Miguel Sano was scratched from the lineup on Sunday in Oakland due to a right ankle sprain.
Sano suffered the injury prior to Saturday night's game. According to the Star Tribune, Sano was taking first-base drills when a ball rolled in from the outfield and the Twins rookie accidentally stepped on it, rolling his ankle in the process.
"We should have done a better job of clearing the field," said Twins manager Paul Molitor.
Sano still started at designated hitter on Saturday night, but the ankle ailment worsened as the game progressed. He reportedly left the stadium in Oakland on crutches as a precaution, due to minor swelling in the ankle.
Sano said he hopes the injury sidelines him for "just a couple days."
Twins officials said they expect Sano to miss three to five days of action. If the injury lingers, however, a stint on the disabled list could be a possibility.
So far this season, Sano is batting .326 with two home runs, nine RBI and a .558 slugging percentage.
