MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Twins have added an arm to the bullpen for 2015.
The team announced Tuesday they signed right-hander Tim Stauffer to a one-year, $2.2 million deal. The 32-year-old Stauffer previously pitched for the San Diego Padres for nine seasons. He logged 64 1/3 innings in 2014 and posted an ERA of 3.50 with 67 strikeouts and 23 walks.
Over his nine-year career, Stauffer is 32-34 with a 3.87 ERA and a WHIP (walks and hits per inning pitched) of 1.308. He made 31 starts for the Padres in 2011 but has since been moved to the bullpen. Of his 183 career games pitched, 110 have been as a reliever.
Stauffer appeared in 87 games over the last two seasons with San Diego with just three of those starts, and all of those came last season. In his 41 relief appearances in 2014, Stauffer had a 2.56 ERA and 1.314 WHIP while striking out 9.1 batters per 9 innings.
Stauffer was the fourth overall pick in the 2003 amateur draft when San Diego took him out of the University of Richmond. He made his major-league debut in May of 2005.
In addition to the Stauffer signing, the Twins announced they have outrighted catcher Eric Fryer and outfielder Chris Parmelee to Triple-A Rochester. Minnesota's 40-man roster is now set at 40 players with the addition of Stauffer.
