Two Twins minor leaguers named to Futures Game roster
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Twins will have two representatives at the 2015 Futures Game during the All-Star weekend in Cincinnati.
Pitching prospect Jose Berrios and outfielder/first baseman Max Kepler will both play on the World team in this year's Futures Game. Berrios, from Puerto Rico, and the German-born Kepler are both currently at Double-A Chattanooga.
Berrios, 21, is making his second straight appearance at the Futures Game. He started last year's game at Target Field in Minneapolis for the World team and pitched a scoreless first inning with a strikeout. In 14 starts with Chattanooga this year, Berrios is 7-3 with a 3.23 ERA, adding 86 strikeouts in 83 2/3 innings. He was the 32nd overall pick in the 2012 draft.
The 22-year-old Kepler, who grew up in Germany before moving to Florida in high school, has been one of the Lookouts' best hitters this season. In 53 games with Chattanooga, Kepler is batting .342/.413/.560 with 27 RBI and eight triples.
The Futures Game will take place on July 12 at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati. The United States won last year's Futures Game at Target Field, which also featured Twins pitching prospect Alex Meyer and designated hitter/first baseman Kennys Vargas.
