Tyus Jones named Summer League MVP

Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Tyus Jones has been named MVP of the 2016 NBA Summer League.

The 20-year-old Jones has led the Timberwolves to four straight wins and a berth in the league championship game. He's averaged 19.4 points, 6.3 assists, 4 rebounds and 1.3 steals in seven Summer League contests, helping Minnesota rebound from an 0-3 start.

Minnesota was seeded 24th out of 24 teams heading into tournament play. The Timberwolves have won all four of their tournament games, however, thanks in part to Jones' efforts.

Jones scored 29 points Sunday in the Timberwolves' semifinal win over Phoenix. He hit the game-winning free throws Saturday in the team's quarterfinal win over Toronto, finishing with 21 points.

"The first three games, we weren't playing like ourselves," Jones told NBA.com after Sunday's win. "We knew we could play a lot better and we've shown that in tournament play."

The Timberwolves traded for Jones on draft night in June 2015, after the Cleveland Cavaliers selected him 24th overall. He appeared in 37 games as a rookie, averaging 4.2 points, 2.9 assists and 15.5 minutes per contest.

Minnesota will face the Chicago Bulls in the Summer League championship at 8 p.m. Monday in Las Vegas.
