Varlamov, Avalanche blank Wild 2-0 in preseason

The Minnesota Wild fell 2-0 to the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday night in their fifth preseason game, as goaltender Semyon Varlamov registered a 30-save shutout.

Wild goaltender Darcy Kuemper surrendered a pair of goals in the second period to Chris Bigras and Carl Soderberg, making 13 saves on 15 shots in the loss, before Alex Stalock entered in the third period.

Stalock stopped all four shots he faced.

The Wild outshot the Avalanche 30-19, while both teams went 0-for-3 on the power play.

Center Joel Eriksson Ek, winger Chris Stewart and defensemen Mike Reilly and Marco Scandella led the Wild with four shots on goal each, while forward Kurtis Gabriel led the defensive battle with three hits.
