Vikings snap counts: Peterson in on just 12 plays in return
We're not sure what Adrian Peterson expected upon his return to action, but we're guessing it didn't exactly go as planned as Minnesota got thumped at home by Indianapolis 34-6.
Peterson was the Vikings' leading rusher, although that was just 22 yards which came on a team-high six carries (Minnesota rushed the ball only three other times in the game). His long carry was for 13 yards, but he also fumbled on that play.
Overall, Peterson got just 12 snaps -- short of the 20 or so which was planned -- which was the same amount as Matt Asiata, and he didn't get a carry after the third play of the third quarter.
Some other notes from Sunday's snap counts:
-- Despite the lopsided score, quarterback Sam Bradford and the entire offensive line played every offensive snap.
-- With Minnesota forced to pass often, a few wide receivers got a boost in playing time. Cordarrelle Patterson was in on a season-high 76 percent of the offensive snaps. Charles Johnson, in part due to Adam Thielen's injury, had 39 snaps, or 67 percent, which is his second-highest total of the season (70 percent in Week 2 vs. Green Bay). Jarius Wright got 17 snaps (29 percent), his highest total since the fifth game of the season.
-- Minnesota wasn't subbing in on defense either despite the blowout. Every defensive player had at least 27 snaps, except two -- linebacker Emmanuel Lamur and cornerback Mackensie Alexander, who each had four snaps.
-- Jerick McKinnon had 12 touches in his 34 snaps.
-- Linval Joseph played 57 snaps (81 percent) and had 13 tackles.
