Vikings waive injured QB Mike Kafka, reach 75-man roster

The Vikings got to the Tuesday cutdown limit of 75  by waiving injured quarterback Mike Kafka, who strained a hamstring in the fourth quarter of Minnesota's preseason game at Dallas on Saturday.

Kafka, who signed with Minnesota in the offseason, has previous NFL experience with Philadelphia and Tampa Bay. He had limited playing time in the preseason, seeing his most time in the Hall of Fame game against Pittsburgh, when he completed 7 of 10 passes for 66 yards with a touchdown. He threw a combined three passes in the next three games and had to leave the Cowboys game after just one series.

That leaves three quarterbacks on Minnesota's roster, with rookie Taylor Heinicke apparently winning the third-string job, unless the Vikings bring in another QB. Teddy Bridgewater is of course the starter with veteran Shaun Hill the backup.

The Vikings play their final preseason game at Tennessee on Thursday then must get their roster down to 53 players Saturday.
