Vikings wrap up draft with small-school LB Robinson

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Rick Spielman reached his preferred 10 selections in the 2015 NFL Draft through trades and finished up Saturday's picks with linebacker Edmond Robinson.

Robinson had 68 tackles and 7.5 tackles for loss last season for Division II Newberry College. He added five pass deflections and two fumble recoveries.

Robinson is a 6-foot-3, 245-pounder and was used as a drop linebacker. He went without a sack last season as an outside linebacker. He ran the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine in 4.61 seconds.

Despite being a product of the Division II ranks, Robinson is confident.

"I'm watching the draft, not sure if any other D-2 player was drafted," Robinson noted on Saturday, "but I'm just excited to get the opportunity to go out there and show what I can do in front of the Vikings' coaching staff."

With Robinson's selection, Minnesota adds more competition at linebacker after UCLA's Eric Kendricks was drafted in the second round. The Vikings have an opening at middle linebacker with Jasper Brinkley signing with the Dallas Cowboys and Chad Greenway is entering the final year of his current contract.
