Virginia Tech CB Fuller out for season after knee surgery
The Virginia Tech Hokies defense, lauded in the preseason as one of the nation's best, suffered a significant loss in star cornerback Kendall Fuller, who will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on his right knee to repair a torn meniscus. The school announced the surgery on Wednesday.
Fuller, an All-American junior rated as one of the top defensive backs in the country, was re-evaluated on Monday and underwent surgery on Tuesday. He initially tore his meniscus during preseason camp, but attempted to play through it this season.
He was sidelined for the Hokies' 35-28 loss against East Carolina on Saturday.
"Kendall was very determined to compete as long as he could with this injury," Hokies coach Frank Beamer said in a statement. "While we are all disappointed that he is sidelined for the remainder of the season, we know Kendall will approach his rehab with a positive attitude and will continue to contribute to our team with his knowledge and leadership."
