Week 18: Fantasy Baseball Two-Start Pitchers
Probable two-start pitchers:
Cream of the crop:
Zack Greinke, LAD (vs. WAS, vs. CIN) – Greinke was roughed up by the Phillies in his last start (6 IP with 6 ER). However, it doesn’t discredit how phenomenal he’s been prior to that particular outing. This season, Greinke is 5-1 with a 1.54 ERA at home. Both of his starts this week will be at Dodger Stadium. On July 19, he shut down the Nationals: 8 IP, 0 ER, and 11 K. As for Cincinnati, the Reds have scored only 14 runs in the past week (fewest in baseball).
Chris Sale, CWS (vs. LAA, vs. CHC) – Back-to-back seven-run outings still isn’t enough to keep Sale off of this list. In the past week, the Angels have scored 21 runs in the past week (second-fewest). As for the Cubs, this was Sale’s line against them on July 11: 7 IP, 1 ER, and 10 Ks.
Madison Bumgarner, SF (vs. HOU, vs. WAS) – The Mad Bum has allowed only one earned run in three of his last four games. Bumgarner has also struck out at least seven batters in four of the past five performances. He is 5-2 with a 2.43 ERA at home, where both of his starts will be this week.
Matt Harvey, NYM (vs. COL, vs. PIT) – Quitely, Harvey has pitched through the seventh inning in five consecutive starts and allowed no more than two earned runs in each of those outings. He will pitch in Citi Field for both of his games. At home, Harvey is 6-2 with a 2.74 ERA this season.
Carlos Martinez, STL (vs. PIT, vs. MIA) – He has allowed one earned run or fewer in six of the past seven games. When he toes the rubber at Busch Stadium, Martinez is 5-2 with a 2.80 ERA.
Potential bargain:
Taylor Jungmann, MIL (@ CHC, vs. PHI) – The Brewers’ rookie pitcher now has eight straight games without allowing more than two earned runs. Also, Jungmann has struck out at least seven batters in four of the past five games. In FOX Sports fantasy baseball, Jungmann is owned in only 47.9 percent of leagues. Scoop him up now before it’s too late.
I’ll pass:
David Buchanan/Aaron Harang, PHI (@ ARI, @ MIL) – Both of these pitchers will face the Diamondbacks and Brewers this week. Arizona is second in the league with 71 strikeouts in the past week. Yet, both SPs are also atrocious on the road this season. Harang is 2-5 with a 4.31 ERA and Buchanan is 0-3 with a 7.20 ERA.
