Week 4 Fantasy Football Rankings

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Week 4 presents some interesting trends in the way of rankings. Remember Todd Gurley being a highly projected RB? That is gone. Remember Marvin Jones being a fringe WR? That is gone. Three weeks of NFL action has established some clear information about teams around the league as we head into the Week 4 Fantasy Football Rankings!

The New Orleans Saints defense would probably give up touchdowns to a team led by me and my friends, same goes to the Falcons. The New England Patriots can win games with anyone behind center, what a system run by Bill Belichick. Who will the studs and duds be this week? Look no further, I give you my Week 4 fantasy football rankings.

The Cardinals are coming off an absolutely horrible game against the Buffalo Bills. Carson Palmer had an awful game. Bad Carson was the one who showed up to the field in New York state. Palmer went 26 of 50 with 4 interceptions. Hopefully that game was an anomaly. The Cardinals host a Rams team who is 15th in allowing QB’s fantasy points.

I am anticipating a big game from the Cardinals. Look for Larry Fitzgerald to have a big game this week. If the Cardinals lose this game to the Rams at home they are in trouble. Palmer must have a bounce back game this week. I anticipate good numbers from him, Fitzgerald and the always steady David Johnson.

Trevor Siemian appears to be a solid streaming option this week. The Buccaneers give up the 5th most points to QB’s. Siemian has two good WR to throw to in Demaryius Thomas and Emanuel Sanders. The young Broncos QB is currently 16th in FPPG for QB’s. This could not be a better match up. The Bucs have looked bad against the pass thus far. There are far worse options than Siemian at QB this week.

LeGarrette Blount has been a huge success for those who drafted him. Blount has the 4th highest FPPG for RB’s with 17.27. Many of my friends and fellow fantasy players keep wondering if his scoring will slow down. Will the Patriots use another running back as they often have in the past? Will his role change when Tom Brady is back? How does Rob Gronkowski returning impact his touchdown frequency?

The above questions will take time to answer. One thing is for certain, he is a must play this week. The Bills are giving up the 10th most points to RB’s this season. Play Blount until he gives you a reason not to. Blount has been a force on a Patriots team that has been rolling even without Tom Brady.

Spencer Ware is a good play this week. The Steelers are giving up the 5th most points to RB’s this season. Will Jamaal Charles be back this week? It is unclear. If Charles returns this week he will not see the lion’s share of the carries. Ware has been effective this season. The Kansas City Chiefs backfield situation will certainly be an interesting one to monitor as weeks pass by. Will Charles become a featured back down the road? Will Ware be the lead dog? Only time will tell. One thing is for certain, Week 4 it is a solid idea to play Ware.

Marvin Jones has the highest FPPG of any wide receiver in the NFL. The Detroit Lions are 1-2, which does not really matter in the fantasy world. The Lions are playing in high scoring games which fairs well for Marvin Jones. The former Bengal has established himself over Golden Tate as Matt Stafford’s favorite target.

Jones was often drafted later in fantasy rounds. Fantasy GM’s who drafted Jones are reaping solid rewards. This is the first time Jones has broken the Top 10 in terms of ECR. The Lions travel to play a Chicago Bears team that has question marks at the QB position. It will be interesting to see what kind of numbers Jones puts up this week. The Bears are a middle of the pack team in terms of points allowed to WR. Jones likely won’t eclipse the 6/205/2 he put up last week, however he should have another solid game.

Dennis Pitta plays a Oakland defense which has surrendered 10.2 FPPG to Tight Ends. Maybe this will be the week Pitta finds the end zone. Pitta should have a good week regardless of TD’s, his yardage is always an asset.

Greg Olsen could be in line for a monstrous game. His match up is extremely favourable. The Panthers take on a brutal Falcons defense. The Falcons have surrendered the 2nd  most FPPG to Tight Ends this season. Cam Newton loves throwing the ball to Olsen. Olsen is currently averaging 10.63 FPPG, leading all Tight Ends. If you are playing against Olsen this week be prepared to see some frustrating points put up against you.

Week 4 of the NFL season has many interesting match ups. Some of the players who have been steady this season will continue on as promised. Some players will falter, hopefully none get injured. Week 4 is a key week in your fantasy season.

Hopefully no one reading this will fall to 0-4 after this week. If you are in a six person or four person playoff structure you can not afford any more losses after going 0-4. If you drop to 0-4 you should consider making a move, unless your team has just been under performing, however generally 0-4 indicates multiple bad elements to your team. Just my two cents. Hopefully everyone enjoys another great Thursday, Sunday and Monday of NFL action.

Best of luck this week in your Week 4 games!
