Wiggins humbles former Wolves PG Barea with one-handed slam

Andrew Wiggins played with a purpose on Wednesday night.

J.J. Barea was simply in the wrong place, at the wrong time.

Leading his Canada squad in the Tuto Marchand Continental Cup, Wiggins, a Minnesota Timberwolves rookie and Toronto native, posterized former Timberwolf and Puerto Rico guard J.J. Barea with a nasty, one-handed dunk, shown in the video above. Wiggins stands 6-foot-8, while Barea is generously listed at 6-0, so perhaps the fight was a bit unfair. Still, Wiggins was taking no prisoners on this night.

Wiggins, the reigning NBA Rookie of the Year, finished the night with 20 points and five rebounds, as Canada beat Puerto Rico, 78-72, to win the event, which also included Argentina, Brazil and the Dominican Republic. Fellow Timberwolf Anthony Bennett -- who had a strong showing overall in the tournament -- had eight points and five rebounds on Wednesday night.

Barea, who currently plays for Dallas in the NBA, led Puerto Rico with 17 points and nine assists.

Wiggins' Canada squad finished 4-0 in the event in San Juan, in a FIBA Americas tune-up tournament. The FIBA Americas is an Olympic qualifying tournament from Aug. 31-Sept. 12 in Mexico. The top two finishers in that event qualify for next summer's Olympics.

Canada begins preliminary-round play against Argentina, on Sept. 1.
