Wild getting offense from defensemen

Published Apr. 5, 2016 4:00 p.m. ET

The Minnesota Wild are so close to clinching a playoff spot and perhaps have the perfect team to play Tuesday.

The Wild have an eight-game point streak record at home against the San Jose Sharks -- who happen to be visiting the Xcel Energy Center on Tuesday. Minnesota has a 7-0-1 record in those games, by the way.

In other recent history, perhaps we should expect Zach Parise to account for a goal Tuesday as well. Over Minnesota's last six home games, Parise has five goals. In addition, in 16 career games against San Jose, Parise had six goals and seven assists.

Meanwhile, perhaps one of Minnesota's defensemen will light the lamp as well. The Wild are just one of five teams to have a pair of 10+-goal scorers by blueliners.

Team Defensemen
Avalanche Barrie (13), E. Johnson (11)
Flames Giordano (20), Hamilton (11)
Kings Doughty (14), Martinez (10)
Predators Weber (19), Josi (13)
Wild Spurgeon (11), Dumba (10)

This marks just the second time in Wild franchise history the team has had two defensemen reach double figures in goals. The other time was in 2008-09, when Marc-Andre Bergeron had 14 and Marek Zidlicky 12.

With two goals, Ryan Suter can make it the first trifecta in Wild history.
