Wild, Sabres to open preseason at Penn State

Published Jun. 29, 2016 11:55 a.m. ET

The Minnesota Wild announced on Wednesday that their preseason-opening game against the Buffalo Sabres will take place at Penn State's Pegula Ice Arena.

The Wild and the Sabres take the ice at 6 p.m. on Sept. 26, before Minnesota's preseason schedule continues with games against the Colorado Avalanche, Winnipeg Jets and Carolina Hurricanes.

Built in 2013 for Penn State's then-new college hockey program, the arena seats just under 6,000 people.

The Sabres' owner -- businessman Terry Pegula -- donated more than $100 million to Penn State in 2010 to fund the arena and establish a hockey team at the school.
