Steve Wojciechowski has begun to assemble his coaching staff at Marquette, as he announced the hiring of Chris Carrawell as an assistant coach.

A former teammate of Wojciechowski's at Duke, Carrawell comes to Marquette after spending the past three years as an assistant coach for the Springfield Armor of the NBA's Developmental League.

"I have a tremendous amount of respect for Chris and couldn't be more excited about him joining the Marquette family," Wojciechowski said. "I have obviously had the chance to play and coach with him and have remained in constant contact and followed his career after his departure from Duke."

Carrawell played at Duke from 1996-2000 and finished tied for 30th on the school's all-time scoring list. He averaged 16.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game as a senior in 2000 and was named the ACC player of the year.

He was drafted in the second round of the 2000 NBA draft by San Antonio but never appeared in an NBA game. Carrawell spent the majority of his professional career overseas, last playing for Matrixx Magixx in the Netherlands in 2007.

Carrawell served as Duke's athletics outreach coordinator in 2007-08, graduate assistant and head manager from 2008-10 and assistant video coordinator and assistant strength and conditioning coach in 2010-11.

Hired by the Armor in 2011, Carrawell worked under Bob MacKinnon and Doug Overton with the D-League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets and was the coach of the team's summer league entry.

"Chris has a great understanding of the game of basketball and his personality will allow him to develop great relationships with our players," Wojciechowski said. "We are going to focus on player skill development at Marquette and Chris' coaching and playing experience make him a valuable addition to the staff and a vital piece to our on-court instruction."
