Wolves' Dunn stealing the spotlight
Kris Dunn has been pressed into service as the starting point guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves due to an injury to Ricky Rubio.
If there's one thing that has stood out about Dunn it is his defense.
In five games, Dunn has 10 steals -- the most in franchise history for any player after his first five games.
Opponent | Minutes | Steals |
Grizzlies | 15:13 | 1 |
Kings | 19:45 | 0 |
Grizzlies | 29:10 | 5 |
Nuggets | 29:52 | 3 |
Thunder | 28:23 | 1 |
In fact, Dunn is just the sixth player since the 2005-06 season to begin a career with 10+ steals in his first five games.
Player | Season | Steals |
Chris Paul | 2005-06 | 10 |
Mario Chalmers | 2008-09 | 16 |
John Wall | 2010-11 | 13 |
Iman Shumpert | 2011-12 | 11 |
Michael Carter-Williams | 2013-14 | 15 |
Kris Dunn | 2016-17 | 10 |
For what it's worth, of the previous five, two -- Chris Paul and Michael Carter-Williams -- were named Rookie of the Year.
Can Dunn continue his thievery against the Brooklyn Nets? Well, Minnesota has had some success against Brooklyn.
In the last seven matchups, the Wolves are 5-2 against the Nets, averaging 102.9 points per game while allowing 99.6. Minnesota's 29-22 (.569) all-time record against the Nets is its best against any opponent.
Other notes:
-- Zach LaVine has 36.8 percent of Minnesota's made 3-pointers, the second-highest percentage of his team's 3s in the NBA. Golden State's Stephen Curry is tops at 46.4 percent.
-- Karl Anthony-Towns enters Tuesday's game having scored 30 points in back-to-back games for the first time in his career.
-- Brooklyn has attempted at least 30 3-pointers in five of its six games. In 2014-15 and 2015-16 combined, the Nets attempted 30+ 3s just four times in 164 games.
