Young boy who received Cam Newton TD ball lost father a few weeks before (VIDEO)
After leaping over the top to score a one-yard touchdown in the second quarter of the Carolina Panthers-Green Bay Packers game on Sunday, Cam Newton attempted to retrieve the football to carry out his tradition of handing it to a young Panthers fan in the stands.
That's when former Panthers and current Packers linebacker Julius Peppers tossed the ball away from Newton, who chased it down and delivered it to 6-year-old Colin Toler, who was seated against a rail in the end zone at his first Panthers game.
Unbeknownst to Newton (and Peppers) at the time, Colin was attending the game with both of his grandfathers after his father, who had promised to take the boy to a game, passed away on Sept. 30 due to an unspecified medical condition, according to WSET.com.
"I was like, 'Oh gosh, oh gosh!" Colin said, recalling when he saw Newton walking in his direction with the ball. " 'Am I going to be on the big screen or am I going to be on TV?' I was jumping up and down like, 'Yeah!' "
Colin got to watch a heck of a game that saw the Panthers improve to a franchise-best 8-0 after staving off a late Packers rally.
All that's left is for word to get back to Good Guy Cam so he can get him a Newton No. 1 jersey to replace that No. 14 for backup QB Joe Webb.
