Every Thursday for the rest of the season, FOX Sports Wisconsin will take a closer look at some specific young players -- as well as noting others who might be stepping up -- measuring, highlighting and evaluating their progress. Keon Broxton (age 25/Triple-A)

Notable: Recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs, where he was batting 301/390/583 with 7 HR and 15 SB, Broxton finally got his first major-league hit Wednesday -- on a bunt single.

Last week: 5 games, 12 PA, .300 BA, .333 OBP, .600 SLG, .933 OPS, 160 sOPS+, .500 BAbip

Season: 40 games, 103 PA, .205 BA, .301 OBP, .273 SLG, .574 OPS, 3 2B, 0 3B, 1 HR, 7 R, 9 RBI, 1 SB, 13 BB, 27 K, .274 BAbip, 57 OPS+, -0.2 WAR.

Notable: Recorded his first career stolen base on May 19 and hit his first major-league home run two days later.

 

Domingo Santana (age 23)

Notable: Was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain on May 19.

Notable: Arcia's 14-game hitting streak came to an end and he is 0 for 9 in Colorado Spring's last two games. He did manage to hit for the cycle over the week, however.

 

Trent Clark (age 19/Single-A)

Last week: 3 games, 9 AB, 2 H, 1 2B, 1 3B, 0 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K, 0 SB, .222 BA

Season: 12 games, 41 AB, .220 BA, .396 OBP, .416 SLG, .811 OPS, 6 2B, 1 3B, 0 HR, 7 R, 1 RBI, 0 SB, 12 BB, 15 K.

Notable: Clark was placed on the 7-day disabled list due to a hamstring strain.

 

Clint Coulter (age 22/Single-A)

Notable: Remains on disabled list at Brevard County due to right oblique injury.

Notable: Went 2 for 4 with 2 runs on May 25, his first multiple-hit game since May 12 and first game scoring more than one run since April 13.

Notable: Has not allowed a run in five of his nine starts. Has allowed just one hit and one walk to a left-handed batter with 18 strikeouts.

 

Adrian Houser (age 23/Double-A)

Notable: Lefties batting .320 against Houser (and his WHIP is 1.92) but he's holding righties to a .230 clip (1.01 WHIP).

Notable: Sandwiched a three-strikeout game on May 23 with a pair of two-hit games May 22 and May 25. Is batting .299 in May.

Notable: Tripled in back-to-back games May 19-20, going 7 for 9 with 3 runs and 4 RBI in the two contests.

A glossary of some of the advanced statistics used:

OPS: On base percentage + slugging percentage

OPS+: OPS compared to league average of 100, adjusted to the player's ballpark

sOPS+: OPS for the split (in our case the last 7 days) compared to the league's split OPS (100 being average).

BAbip: Batting average on balls in play.

WHIP: Walks plus hits divided by innings pitched.

ERA+: ERA compared to league average of 100, adjusted to the player's ballpark

FIP: Fielding Independent Pitching. Measures a pitcher's effectiveness at presenting home runs, walks and hit by pitches while causing strikeouts. The MLB average FIP is the same as the MLB average ERA.

WAR: Wins Above Replacement value. Represents the number of wins the player added to the team above what a replacement player would add (we are using WAR from baseball-reference.com).
