Young Bucks Tracker: Dec. 31 edition
With two-thirds of the roster born after 1990, the Milwaukee Bucks are a young, growing team. Every Thursday for the rest of the season, FOX Sports Wisconsin will take a closer look at the players that are still in their first three NBA seasons, measuring, highlighting and evaluating their progress.
This is the seventh edition of the 2015-16 Young Bucks Tracker.
A glossary of the advanced statistics used for season totals:
PER -- Player Efficiency Rating: A measure of per-minute production standardized such that the league average is 15.
TS% -- True Shooting Percentage: A measure of shooting efficiency that takes into account 2-point field goals, 3-point field goals, and free throws.
USG% -- Usage Percentage: An estimate of the percentage of team plays used by a player while he was on the floor.
ORtg -- Offensive Rating: An estimate of points produced per 100 possessions.
DRtg -- Defensive Rating: An estimate of points allowed per 100 possessions.
VORP -- Value over Replacement Player: A box score estimate of the points per 100 TEAM possessions that a player contributed above a replacement-level (-2.0) player, translated to an average team and prorated to an 82-game season.
GIANNIS ANTETOKOUNMPO (Age 21, third season)
Statistical season averages (last week): 15.6 points (14.0), 6.7 rebounds (7.0), 2.8 assists (1.7), 0.8 steals (.3), 1.1 blocks (0.3), 33.7 minutes (34.3), 51.1 FG% (50.0), 27.5 3PT% (0.0).
Advanced stats, season: 16.7 PER, 57.8 percent TS%, 21.5 percent USG%, 107 ORtg, 109 DRtg, 0.6 VORP.
Notable: After starting out slowly in the week's first two games, Antetokounmpo busted out with a 27-point, 10-rebound game against Oklahoma City. He also helped hold the Thunder's Kevin Durant to 6-of-18 shooting. If only Antetokounmpo could put up more consistent efforts like that.
MICHAEL CARTER-WILLIAMS (Age 24, third season)
Statistical season averages (last week): 12.1 points (11.7), 4.4 rebounds (7.3), 5.4 assists (4.0), 1.3 steals (1.3), 0.6 blocks (0.0), 29.7 minutes (28.3), 46.1 FG% (45.7), 29.2 3PT% (50.0).
Advanced stats, season: 14.5 PER, 50.1 percent TS%, 23.1 percent USG%, 95 ORtg, 108 DRtg, 0.1 VORP.
Notable: It isn't often a point guard has nearly twice as many rebounds as assists in a week, but that's what Carter-Williams pulled off over the past three games. With the return of Jerryd Bayless it will be interesting to see how Carter-Williams' minutes are affected. He played just 21 minutes in Bayless' return and nearly 32 the next game, which was less than his previous six games.
TYLER ENNIS (Age 21, second season)
Statistical season averages (last week): 3.9 points (6.0), 1.3 rebounds (1.0), 1.0 assists (1.0), 0.3 steals (1.0), 0.1 blocks (0.0), 10.9 minutes (8.0), 45.8 FG% (75.0), 36.4 3PT% (n/a).
Advanced stats, season: 9.8 PER, 52.5 percent TS%, 19.2 percent USG%, 94 ORtg, 112 DRtg, -0.2 VORP.
Notable: Ennis continued his hot shooting with a 3 for 4 effort against Toronto -- meaning he was 8 for his last 11 -- but then Bayless returned and he sat the next two games. That doesn't bode well.
DAMIEN INGLIS (Age 20, first season)
Statistical season averages (last week): 1.1 points (n/a) 1.1 rebounds (n/a), 0.3 assists (n/a), 0.3 steals (n/a), 0.0 blocks (n/a), 5.6 minutes (n/a), 25.0 FG% (n/a), 20.0 3PT% (n/a).
Advanced stats, season: 2.6 PER, 41.0 percent TS%, 16.1 percent USG%, 70 ORtg, 105 DRtg, -0.1 VORP.
Notable: After playing just two games and four combined minutes of the last two weeks, Inglis didn't play at all in Milwaukee's three games. And you thought things didn't bode well for Ennis. A little perplexing why Inglis isn't getting time in the D-League and Chris Copeland seeing some minutes. Instead, neither is playing.
JOHNNY O'BRYANT (Age 22, second season)
Statistical season averages (last week): 3.7 points (4.3), 3.2 rebounds (3.7), 0.7 assists (1.0), 0.4 steals (0.0), 0.2 blocks (0.0), 15.3 minutes (16.0), 42.9 FG% (54.5), 1.000 3PT% (n/a).
Advanced stats, season: 8.6 PER, 46.3 percent TS%, 13.6 percent USG%, 99 ORtg, 111 DRtg, -0.3 VORP.
Notable: O'Bryant has turned into a model of consistency. He plays roughly 15 minutes a game and picks up a few points and rebounds. And that's exactly what he did in each of the past three games.
JABARI PARKER (Age 20, second season)
Statistical season averages (last week): 10.5 points (6.7), 4.1 rebounds (4.0), 1.2 assists (0.7), 0.6 steals (0.0), 0.1 blocks (0.0), 25.3 minutes (23.0), 45.7 FG% (20.0), 0.0 3PT% (0.0).
Advanced stats, season: 13.9 PER, 50.2 percent TS%, 20.3 percent USG%, 104 ORtg, 111 DRtg, -0.3 VORP.
Notable: This was a week to forget for last year's No. 2 overall pick. Parker shot just 6 of 30 from the field and after playing nearly 33 minutes against Toronto, combined for around 36 minutes in the next two games. And he isn't on the court in crunch time (i.e. the fourth quarter). Everyone goes through slumps and Parker is surely in one.
RASHAD VAUGHN (Age 19, first season)
Statistical season averages (last week): 2.1 points (1.0), 1.2 rebounds (2.0), 0.3 assists (1.0), 0.3 steals (0.0), 0.1 blocks (0.0), 9.2 minutes (9.3), 27.7 FG% (20.0), 36.4 3PT% (50.1).
Advanced stats, season: 3.6 PER, 38.9 percent TS%, 15.3 percent USG%, 77 ORtg, 111 DRtg, -0.3 VORP.
Notable: More and more it is looking like a lost season for Vaughn. Milwaukee tries to get him involved -- 10 minutes vs. Toronto and 14 1/2 at Dallas, but he either isn't shooting (five shots in three games) and when he is, isn't making them (one field goal, 0 for 3 from two-point range). The Bucks often need an offensive spark, but how long will they continue to give Vaughn that chance this season (and note he played just three minutes at Oklahoma City)?
