A Good Team Starts From The Back

West Ham currently find themselves third from bottom after conceding 11 goals in three games. The word crisis isn’t fully applicable yet, but it’s not far off. With a home game against Middlesbrough coming up, defence must take the priority.

Good Foundation

If you think back to any good team of the Premier League, they were all based on a solid defence. The winners of the league were usually the hardest team to beat, once they were just impossible to.

If you think back to the time Liverpool nearly won with Suarez and Sturridge, their attack was the best that year. You used to just pray they had an off day going forward because you could always nick a goal at the other end. Manchester City were a lot harder to beat, and in the end they won the trophy. It’s not rocket science.

And now we find ourselves here. Is it any surprise? We might have one of the most exciting forward lineups going, but unless we can keep a clean sheet, or only concede one goal a game, then we’re always going to be in the bottom half.

The Way Forward

Bilic needs to ignore anything mildly interesting in training for a while. We struggle to get the ball away from our defence in matches and the set up is therefore rushed. We seem to be constantly out of position and it’s hurting what, on paper anyway, should be a solid back line.
