Ajax send 27 beer crates to Scottish side East Kilbride after they beat their record
With Scottish side East Kilbride's 3-1 victory over BSC Glasgow in the Scottish Lowland League, it marked 27 wins in a row, breaking Ajax's 44-year-old record of 26 wins.
When East Kilbridge tied the record last week, the Dutch giants took it in the classiest way possible by sending a congratulatory message to East Kilbridge via Twitter.
But when East Kilbridge broke Ajax's record on Saturday, they took their congratulations a step further. At the final whistle, an Ajax-branded van drove onto the pitch, bearing 27 crates of complimentary beer and a special video message from former goalkeeper and current marketing director, Edwin van der Sar.
Ajax's record-breaking 1971-72 team was filled with stars, including none other than the late Johan Cruyff, and they cruised to 26 wins between October and March -- that's 19 wins in the Eredevisie, four European Cup matches and three rounds of the Dutch Cup.
Pure class from Ajax. And 27 crates of beer isn't a bad way to get the party started at all.
