Alvaro Morata reveals mega (and desperate) Chelsea bid
As Chelsea desperately looked for more attacking reinforcements during the summer transfer window, they apparently put in a mega bid for Alvaro Morata.
Chelsea appeared to do very little during the summer transfer window. After securing Michy Batshuayi and N’Golo Kante early on, they then waited until Transfer Deadline Day to sign David Luiz and Marcos Alonso. Alvaro Morata, though, has revealed that the Blues made a huge bid for his services.
The Spanish forward was surrounded by transfer speculation throughout the summer after Real Madrid activated his buy-back clause. Morata has now stated that Chelsea were the most interested party, even tabling an offer worth around £60 million.

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane told Morata that he was in his plans for the season and thus he did not push for the move. Nevertheless, a £60 million offer seems a bit desperate from Chelsea.

The 23-year-old has yet to make a significant impact on world football. In two seasons with Juventus, the striker scored only 27 goals in 93 appearances. The return is not poor, but it is certainly not worth £60 million.
Morata has a lot of potential, but there are doubts whether he will ever fulfill it. At this age, some of his peers are already making waves.
The Spaniard had a decent summer at Euro 2016, which triggered Real Madrid’s interest in re-signing him. It was initially believed that the plan was to sell him on for a profit, but Zidane thought differently.
After being rebuffed in this bid, Chelsea failed to secure another attacking option. As a result, they are somewhat short in that department this season, with Batshuayi and Diego Costa representing their only real choices up front.
This will suffice should neither pick up injuries. However, it is unlikely that Costa will go through a full season without spending some times on the sidelines.
In some ways, it is good to hear that Chelsea were actually chucking money around this summer. But this story lays bare the desperation that had engulfed the Blues camp. £60 million for Morata? Next you’ll be paying £80 million for a French midfielder who can’t pass…
