Arsenal: Shkodran Mustafi Cannot Fathom The New Stability
Arsenal’s newest defender Shkodran Mustafi has commented on how excited he is to find stability. Yet he cannot possibly fathom the level of stability.
Shkodran Mustafi has come out and said that he can’t wait to feel the stability of his new Arsenal home after the tumultuous affairs at Valencia. If stability is what he wants, then he will get exactly that. Although he cannot possibly fathom just how stable the ship at Arsenal is.
Everything about Arsenal screams stability – the exact kind of stability that Mustafi wants. First he commented that there have been three new coaches, a new sporting director and a new president. Essentially, it’s a new club.
“A lot changed since I joined in 2014. You might be in the same city at the same club, but the surroundings kept changing. It’s not that easy to call it a home,” he said, as quoted by ESPN FC.
At Arsenal, nothing changes. Almost to a fault. Wenger has been here over two decades. Silent Stan sits on his throne and will not relinquish it. Ivan Gazidis will be here so long as Wenger is. These things just don’t change. If they do, it will be handpicked by Wenger and life will go on as smoothly as possible.
In terms of playing-time stability, Mustafi has absolutely nothing to worry about. Ever. So long as he isn’t a lumbering buffoon, which we know he isn’t, then he can hold down that spot next to Koscielny for as long as he pleases, much like Mertesacker did. It’s his to lose. He can create his own stability.
Then there is the Champions League. Mustafi highlighted it as a major reason why he left Valencia and he is coming to a team that has qualified for the competition 21 straight years. They also (sometimes shockingly) always seem to push through the group stages.
More from Pain in the Arsenal
Many supporters bemoan the Gunner’s inability to push farther in the Champions League, but they always put themselves in a good position and with the right cast, that ‘good position’ could turn into a deeper run.
Mustafi could not have come to a more stable club in a more prestigious competition. Manchester United had nothing for him, they can’t keep a manager more than two years. Chelsea seemed in on Mustafi too but they have only emerged recently and as we saw last year, stability isn’t in their repertoire.
This is the perfect fit and everyone seems to know it. If reports are to be believed, he will be fit and ready to take on Southampton in his Emirates debut when this torturous international break is over. So begins the long reign of Mustafi in the Arsenal defense.
