Arsenal: Wenger alarmed but not pressured by ongoing Ramsey injury
Aaron Ramsey has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since Arsenal’s opening game of the season and Arsene Wenger is growing increasingly alarmed with the situation.
Aaron Ramsey has not kicked a ball for Arsenal since the opening day 4-3 defeat to Liverpool. Ramsey suffered a hamstring injury and Arsene Wenger is now growing increasingly alarmed with the length of time the Welshman is taking to recover, according to The Sun.
Arsenal are unbeaten since the game against Liverpool, but the Gunners are still looking for Ramsey to return to their midfield ranks. The 25-year-old starred for Wales during Euro 2016 but hasn’t yet had the chance to follow that up with similar performances for his club.
Fortunately for Wenger, he need not worry. Central midfield is the one area the Frenchman can accommodate an injury or two. Let’s face it, he should be used to it with Jack Wilshere’s long-standing injury record.

Wenger will no doubt be eager to see Ramsey return. But the Arsenal boss can also call upon Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla, Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny for the time being. Even Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could step into a central area if desperately required.

Wenger has good numbers in that area of the pitch, so it is vital not to rush Ramsey back and risk further injury. Coquelin has experience in the first team now and can be trusted. While Cazorla has been one of the team’s best players for the past few season.
Xhaka was signed in the summer from Borussia Monchengladbach and has been a reserve himself since arriving. Arsenal still haven’t seen the best of Xhaka with the Swiss international showing his quality in glimpses. Not only with his passing, but also with his goalscoring.
Xhaka was on the bench for the Gunners’ last Premier League game against Hull City. But came on as a substitute and scored with a wonderful long-range strike. The following game against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup, Xhaka started the game and, once again, found himself on the scoresheet.
Elneny also put in an assured display in that game. Wenger has plenty of options in the center of the park to call upon. Ramsey’s injury should be a concern, but nothing more than that. There’s no real need to rush the Welshman back and take an unnecessary risk.
Wenger’s team are performing well right now and seem to be finding their rhythm after an opening day blip. Ramsey’s return will add to that, of course, but only when he’s fully fit and ready to do so.
Wenger can afford to wait. He’s afforded himself that luxury, so why not use it?
