Arsene Wenger, Mauricio Pochettino open to being England boss, but not right now

England could be managed by Arsene Wenger. Or Mauricio Pochettino. But that won't be the case anytime soon.

Both the Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur managers were asked whether they had any interest in taking over the Three Lions and they essentially had the same answer -- it's a possibility one day, but that day is not today.

Wenger said, "One day, if I'm free, why not?"

It was almost identical to Pochettino's answer: "Yes, why not? In the future."

Neither Wenger nor Pochettino have been realistically bandied about as the next England manager. The FA is on the hunt for their next boss after parting ways with Sam Allardyce on Tuesday and the leading candidates have been Alan Pardew, Steve Bruce and Eddie Howe.

Pardew and Howe both have jobs in the Premier League, but it's assumed that Pardew would leave Crystal Palace for England because he's dreamed of being the Three Lions boss. Howe may do so as well, leaving Bournemouth. Bruce is unemployed after resigned as Hull manager so he would almost assuredly take the England job, too. But all three are more likely to want the England post because all three are English.

Wenger is French and Pochettino is Argentine so this wouldn't be an opportunity to lead their national team. The job has less appeal to them and both are at contending Premier League clubs. Neither is going to leave their current jobs for England. But one day in the future, if they don't have such cozy gigs, the England job could interest them, just like it could interest most anyone if the time was right.
