Backup goalkeeper's mom calls in to radio show to bash starting goalie
Peñarol is arguably the most popular club in Uruguay, a 5-time Copa Libertadores winner and voted South American club of the century.
The club also has a passionate fan-base and the mother of backup keeper Damián Frascarelli is no exception. Calling into local Montevideo radio station Sport 890, a woman identifying herself as "Maria" absolutely tore into starting goalkeeper Gastón Guruceaga, criticizing the recent form of Peñarol's #1 with extreme fervor... and what turned out to be suspicious intentions. "Maria" told Sport 890's "Usted que Opina":
Perhaps suspicious of the caller's intentions, the Sport 890 host asked the caller if she was a big Peñarol fan. The woman replied yes, and perhaps ready to come clean added, "I have a son on the team."
Awkward.
Guessing this act of a mother's love will not go over well in Peñarol's locker room. Damián Frascarelli, in all likelihood humiliated by the episode, took to Twitter to apologize:
Frascarelli says that he's wants to apologize to Guruceaga, for what was said, but added that he can't control what his mother does or says. Also, he added that he's talked to Guruceaga and they're still friends.
Let's hope these two 'keepers can return to happier times like these from a week ago:
