Mario Balotelli is poised to head back to Serie A and re-join AC Milan on a season-long loan deal from Liverpool, according to reports.

La Gazzetta dello Sport have stated that Milan boss Sinisa Mihajlovic has already met the out-of-favor Liverpool striker and he could be in the stands to watch his former side in action against Fiorentina in their season opener at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

When questioned about a potential deal, Milan's general manager Adriano Galliani refused to rule out a move for the forward who scored 30 goals in 54 games during a two-year spell with the Rossoneri.

"I'm not going to comment," he said. "But like [Italian singer] Antonello Venditti once said, there are certain loves which go such a long way and then they come back. I and the president are both romantic people."

The 25-year-old is way down the pecking order at Anfield after he found the net just once for the Reds last season, and the pressure is on Brendan Rodgers to sell the Italian who will receive a substantial loyalty bonus if he does remain a Liverpool player beyond the current transfer window.
