Barcelona set an impressive new Champions League record

Published Dec. 9, 2016 1:05 p.m. ET

It seems like every year Barcelona manage to win their group in the Champions League. As it just so happens, that's not far from the truth. Barcelona have won their group every year for the past decade in the Champions League, setting a new record with ten consecutive group-clinching seasons.

Their latest run at increasing the streak is quite impressive. The group they're currently in, Group C, boasts Manchester City, Borussia Moenchengladbach and Celtic. It's not exactly a walk in the park. Just getting to the Champions League 10 straight years is a worthy accomplishment, but winning your group on top of it is remarkable.

The last time Barcelona missed out on the Champions League entirely was the 2003/04 season. The last time the Catalonians didn't win their UCL group, which was 2004/05, the likes of Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto'o were in the squad. With a stable core of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar leading their attack, something tells us they have a good chance to extend their streak next year and beyond.
