Benzema facing uncertain future at Real Madrid under Benitez

Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez is reportedly planning to play Cristiano Ronaldo as a lone striker in a move which could sideline Karim Benzema.

Benzema started 29 of Real's 38 games in La Liga last season as part of the 4-3-3 formation favored by Carlo Ancelotti, but Benitez is planning to switch to a 4-2-3-1 with Ronaldo as the focal point, according to AS.

That would see Benzema relegated to back-up, something he is unlikely to be keen on leading up to Euro 2016, and could leave Real open to offers for the 27-year-old.

Benzema finished last season with 15 goals and 10 assists, totals which were dwarfed by Ronaldo's tallies of 48 goals and 16 assists - and totals which have seemingly left Benitez's unconvinced by the Frenchman.

His feelings could open the door for Arsenal, who it was reported in Spain last week were considering a 25million euros bid that would be enough to convince Florentino Perez to sell.

According to separate reports in Marca, Arsenal have formally enquired about signing young Barcelona winger Munir El Haddadi on a season-long loan deal.
