Bologna move two points clear of drop zone after win at Hellas Verona
MILAN --
Bologna won 2-0 at fellow struggler Hellas Verona on Saturday in what was already billed as a relegation fight, even at this early stage of the Serie A season.
The visitors got off to a perfect start, taking the lead after just five minutes when Emanuele Giaccherini placed a precise finish into the right side of the net with a swiveling half-volley from Adam Masina's cross.
Masina again found plenty of space down the left flank nine minutes later and, although his cross was intercepted, the ball came out to teenager Godfred Donsah, who fired into the bottom left corner for his first goal for the club.
It was Bologna's second win in as many matches under Roberto Donadoni, after the former Italy coach replaced Delio Rossi. The team has now scored five goals in two matches - as many as in its previous nine.
Bologna moved provisionally two points clear of the relegation zone, while Verona is now six points from safety.
AC Milan hosts Atalanta later, looking for a fourth consecutive win to move level on points with fourth-placed Napoli, ahead of Sunday's matches.
