Brazilian Ronaldo snubs Cristiano Ronaldo in all-time best XI

Published Nov. 15, 2016 2:43 p.m. ET

The original Ronaldo, the Brazilian soccer legend, has put together his all-time best XI and there is one present-day great who is conspicuously missing: The other Ronaldo from Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo’s XI list is heavy on superstars of the previous era, with Argentina’s Lionel Messi being the only player still in the prime of his career to make the list. But it does include a couple other active players like Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, and Andrea Pirlo, who is with New York City FC in MLS.

What’s more, Ronaldo managed to include himself on the list as a striker alongside Pele in a 4-4-2. Here is the full “dream team” that Ronaldo picked:

Goalkeeper: Gianluigi Buffon
Right back: Cafu
Centerback: Paolo Maldini
Centerback: Fabio Cannavaro
Left back: Roberto Carlos
Right midfield: Diego Maradona
Center midfield: Zinedine Zidane
Center midfield: Andrea Pirlo
Left midfield: Lionel Messi
Striker: Pele
Striker: Ronaldo

The younger Ronaldo might have something to say about this list, but as the original said in picking his best XI, “I know I miss a lot of players, but this is my best, my dream team.”

Either way, as the Messi vs. Ronaldo debate continues to rage on, you can check this one off in the Messi column.
