Celtic FC Makes Me Happy - Scott Sinclair

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Journeyman forward Scott Sinclair has played for 13 clubs in his career but says he is now enjoying his football and is happy with Celtic FC

It’s hard to find a player with more clubs on his resume than Scott Sinclair, especially one as young as the 27-year-old forward. Including Celtic FC, Sinclair has suited up for 13 clubs since becoming a senior player in 2005 at just 15.

Sinclair has played for clubs at the top of the food chain in Chelsea and Manchester City and clubs in the lower leagues such as Bristol Rovers or Plymouth Argyle. Much of these appearances came as a loan player while officially a Chelsea player and considering the Blues’ recent policies, his club tally may be matched by someone in their academy very soon.

Sinclair’s best period of sustained success came as a member of Swansea City and under the tutelage of his current Celtic FC manager Brendan Rodgers. After Rodgers departed Swansea for greener pastures, Sinclair did the same and joined Manchester City in the midst of their big-money revolution.

Things went poorly for Sinclair at City as he describes in detail in this profile in The Telegraph, and he went on a few more loan spells before spending last season with the eventually relegated Aston Villa. Now at Celtic and back with his old manager, Scott Sinclair is happy for the first time in a long time.

He told The Telegraph:

“My main aim when I joined Celtic was to be happy again, to enjoy my football again, because I was going through a stage at City where I was coming home every day and I was angry. I used to get angry all the time. I was snappy. All my family noticed I wasn’t myself, but people who look from the outside say, ‘Ah, you’re fine because you’ve had the contract’, but for me football means more than just that.”

His happiness is evident on the pitch as the English forward has notched seven goals and an assist in nine appearance for the Hoops. Sinclair has not scored seven or more goals since the 2011-12 season with Swansea so he is clearly enjoying himself for the first time since he was playing in Wales.

Many supporters may give Sinclair a hard time for not succeeding at Manchester City but he took a chance to play at one of the richest clubs in the world and things just did not work out for a number of reasons. He is now in a place where he is appreciated by his club and his manager and that is more valuable than club resources in many cases.

It would be sweet revenge for Sinclair if he is able to lead Celtic to victory over the Citizens and he will undoubtedly have some extra motivation ahead of the Champions League clash.
