Celtic's Five Best Goals Against Rangers (1872-2012)

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

This Saturday will be the first time that Celtic face off against the new Rangers F.C. in a Scottish Premier League match. We’ve already kicked off our coverage over at the stats corner, but as the excitement builds we take a look back at the five best goals scored against the club’s predecessor founded in 1872.

Jinky’s Left Footer (Celtic 2 – Rangers 2, 1967)

One of the greatest goals during one of Celtic’s greatest years. Jimmy Johnstone scores a sensational left footer into the top corner to help the Hoops take the lead 2-1. Rangers equalised, but the Celts under Jock Stein went on to win every competition they entered that season (Premier Division, Scottish Cup, League Cup, Glasgow Cup and the mighty European Cup)

Murdo MacLeod in the 1982 League Cup (Celtic 2 – Rangers 1, 1982)

The Glasgow lad would make 281 appearances for the Hoops over his nine years at Celtic Park, scoring 55 goals, winning five league titles, two Scottish Cups and one League Cup. This goal will always stick out in memory when MacLeod smashes a goal in to the top corner from a crowded penalty box helping the Hoops cement their victory in the 1982 League Cup.

Nakamura (Celtic 2 – Rangers 1, 2008)

Twenty minutes in to a historic match up between Celtic and Rangers Nakamura scores one of the finest goals by any player at Parkhead sending the crowd electric.

Sean Maloney Takes a Long Shot (Celtic 2 – Rangers 0, 2005)

It’s been called Maloney’s finest moment at Parkhead during what was undoubtedly his finest season playing for the Hoops. Watching the 5′ 7″ star hit it in to the goal from 30 yards out it’s not hard to remember why he was voted Celtic Fans’ Player of the Year, and Players Player of the Year during the 2005-06 season.

Henrik’s Chip (Celtic 6 – Rangers 2, 2000)

The king of kings scores arguably the greatest goal ever scored in an Old Firm match by either side. We’ll let this one speak for itself. Watch below.
