Cesc Fabregas commended by Chelsea boss Antonio Conte for attitude and performance
After spending the opening stages of the season on the bench, Cesc Fabregas pitched up when he was needed by Chelsea last night, a fact not lost on Antonio Conte.
Chelsea continued their whacky start to the season with a remarkable 4-2 victory over Leicester City. The comeback win saw them progress to the Fourth Round of the EFL Cup. Cesc Fabregas got a start, having spent the majority of this young campaign on the bench, and he delivered the goods with two goals. Antonio Conte commended the Spaniard following the final whistle.
Speaking about the midfielder, the boss was keen to applaud the attitude he has shown thus far as well as his efforts on the night.
I am pleased for Cesc. He played a good game and he showed me in this period great attitude and commitment during the training sessions and when I call him during the game to come on. I’m satisfied when I see this behaviour. – via chelseafc.com

Rumours have been rampant in recent weeks regarding Fabregas’ Stamford Bridge future. Conte has preferred to go with the duo of Nemanja Matic and Oscar ahead of N’Golo Kante in the midfield, with Fabregas limited to cameos from the bench.
To his credit, the Spaniard has been eager to dismiss any speculation, stating that he is happy at the club and under Conte’s command. This sentiment was reflected in his display on Friday night. He stepped up to the plate and netted twice to help Chelsea get over the line.
Fabregas even used his post-match interview to again stress how much he wants to stay with the Blues, attacking his critics rather aggressively.

While Chelsea’s start to the season has been far from perfect, incidents like this are proof that matters are taking a turn for the better. Conte, despite his tough managerial methods, has earnt the respect of the squad, including those seemingly out of favour.
The way he will confirm that this respect is mutual is by rewarding Fabregas with a start against Arsenal this weekend. Matic has not been impressive in his advanced role during the opening weeks, presenting an opportunity to call up Fabregas.
Nevertheless, the atmosphere around the Blues is much-changed from the toxic air that engulfed the club last season. The product on the pitch needs significant work, but the Chelsea are evidently on the path to recovery.
