Chapecoense plane that crashed was used to fly to Argentina earlier this month
The plane that crashed while carrying Chapecoense to the Copa Sudamericana final on Monday had previously been used by Lionel Messi and Argentina, according to multiple reports, including Ole.
The Argentina national team used the same plane plane for a November 10 World Cup qualifier against Brazil. The team flew the plane to Belo Horizonte, Brazil and then back home after the match so they could host Colombia in a qualifier five days later in San Juan, Argentina.
After the match in San Juan, Argentina took a team flight back to Buenos Aires, where the players hopped on flights to return to their clubs. On that flight from San Juan to Buenos Aires, Messi became sick because of turbulence, but Clarin report that Argentina used a different plane for that flight.
Aviation authorities said that the plane carrying the Chapecoense team declared an emergency because of electrical failure before crashing. Of the 81 people on board the flight, only six survived.
