Chicharito reveals gruesome picture of post-surgery hand

Published Nov. 15, 2016 2:43 p.m. ET

We learned Tuesday that Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez would be sidelined for two weeks after a freak accident in his home, but we didn't know how serious the injury actually looked until now. Chicharito shared a picture of his hand on Instagram following the surgery, which was successful, while also thanking fans for their well wishes.

Here's your warning, the picture of his post-op hand is pretty gnarly.

Who knew that falling down the stairs could result in THAT? It looks like he fell into a wood chipper, or that his stairs are carpeted with corrugated steel. Despite the gruesome-looking aftermath, Chicharito is clearly in fine spirits. He says the surgery went perfect and is hopeful to be back in two weeks.

Bayer Leverkusen will surely hope he's able to get back to action quickly, as the 28-year-old Mexican collected 17 goals in 25 Bundesliga appearances last season. And while he'll be sidelined for Bayer's opening two matches (and also a World Cup qualifier for Mexico), he could return just in time for the competition he truly thrives in, the Champions League.

Leverkusen's European campaign, in which Chicharito collected five goals in six appearances last season, kicks off on Sept. 14 against CKSA Moscow. Hopefully Chicharito will be able to ... lend a hand.
