Chilean clubs pay homage to Chapecoense with touching rendition of 'Ave Maria'
As those affected by the airline tragedy that claimed 71 lives — including most of the Chapecoense soccer team — continue to grieve, countless communities, teams and people have stepped forward to try and help the healing process.
We've seen multiple moments of silence, player tributes, Brazilian teams asking for rule changes to help Chapecoense and much more. And it's a global network of support, which is impressive, but the Brazilian team's fellow South American brethren have really stepped up when it comes to tributes.
Ahead of the Chilean Clasico match between Colo-Colo and Universidad de Chile, this touching tribute took place, complete with a jaw-dropping live rendition of "Ave Maria."
Tito Beltran sang the homage, and it was just beautiful. Very powerful stuff. Fans in the stands also had green balloons, Chapecoense's team color, which they released as the song ended.
It's clear that the tragedy has had a profound effect on a lot of people, and gestures like these are hopefully helpful to the healing process.
