Coutinho: Liverpool have a 'great chance' of ending trophy drought

Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho is confident the club can end their three-year wait for a trophy this season, saying they have a "great chance" of tasting glory.

The Reds, who last lifted silverware in 2012 when they won the League Cup, have made decent progress in the cups this season and they will take on Stoke over two legs for a place in the Capital One Cup final next month.

Jurgen Klopp's men have also reached the last-32 of the Europa League and face Exeter in the FA Cup third round next month and Coutinho is hoping they can go on and lift a trophy in one of the three knockout competitions.

"We're in a very good position. It's the goal of everyone involved, we're all focused on fighting for the trophies and I think we have a great chance in the competitions we're in this year.

"We're going to fight for that and I hope we win a trophy this year," he told the club's website.

Coutinho, 23, will have been at Anfield for three years next month after arriving from Inter in 2013 and adapting to life in the Premier League he is still looking to improve.

"Three wonderful years," added Coutinho. "In the beginning I was given a very warm welcome, from the fans, the team, everyone who works here at the club.

"So I'm very grateful to the club, and now I hope to be able to help the team win trophies, it's very important to keep battling.

"We learn little by little. When you arrive here, the football is very different, the style of play, it's more intense, you use your body more, it's faster.

"These things I think I've improved on since I arrived, as I came from a different style of football, and I hope I can continue to improve."
