Cristiano Ronaldo debuts new golden hairdo and everyone freaks out

When Cristiano Ronaldo does anything, it's news to someone out there. New product launch? New Instagram post? New hairstyle? News, news, news. Such is the star power of one of the world's most famous athletes.

So when Ronaldo debuted a new hairstyle going into the weekend with gold highlights, outlets around the world declared the gold must be a nod to the gold Ballon d'Or award that he is (probably) going to win on Monday.

Check out the 'do:

There's a very good chance Ronaldo will take home the award from France Football magazine. After all, he helped Portugal win the European Championship this year, and that was the top award available. Winning the Champions League with Real Madrid certainly doesn't hurt his case, either.

But maybe Ronaldo just wanted some highlights? It's not like Lionel Messi or Neymar needed award ceremonies to dye their hair blond.

As one fan on Twitter so astutely put it:

The Ballon d'Or is no longer an award given out by FIFA after the agreement between France Football and FIFA ended. FIFA will be giving out their top award in January, renamed the Best FIFA Men's Player 2016, and, if we're honest, he'll probably win that one too. But we'll just have to wait and see what he does with his hair then so everyone can read into it way too much.
