Dani Carvajal apologizes for flipping the bird to Barcelona fans after Ramos goal
Real Madrid's Dani Carvajal could find himself in a bit of hot water after pictures surfaced of the defender directing a lewd gesture toward Barcelona fans in Saturday's 1-1 draw. While celebrating Sergio Ramos' last-gasp header to rescue a point, a little birdie popped up on Carvajal's hand that he just couldn't shoo away. For those who prefer things more direct, here's another way to put it: Carvajal gave a section of Barcelona fans the middle finger.
The pictures are clear as day, so there was no spinning this one. Carvajal was quick to take to Twitter and apologize for the incident.
In English: "I'd like to apologize for the gesture to a portion of the fans responding to (their) insults. It's something that shouldn't be done." OK, so it's kind of a half apology, half buck-passing. If the Barcelona fans hadn't insulted him, he wouldn't have flipped them off! It sounds exactly like what you'd expect a 24-year-old to say if they were forced to apologize for something they thought was no big deal.
In the end, it really isn't. It's unprofessional, yes, but in the grand scheme of things, it's just a moment of poor judgment. Nobody got hurt, and that's the important thing. Now, the Spanish Football Federation might see things in a more harsh light, but we'll have to wait and see.
Either way, lesson (probably) learned for Carvajal.
