Danny Rose Wants to Finish Career with Tottenham

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Danny Rose hopes to remain with Tottenham for as long as he can.

Taking a page out of Harry Kane’s book of wanting to remain as a Tottenham player for his entire playing career, Danny Rose wants to do the exact same thing.

Speaking to Spurs’ official site, the 26-year-old cited legendary center-back Ledley King as a fine example of staying with the Lilywhites.

While Rose didn’t start his career with Spurs, as he played for Leeds United and even went out on multiple loans, since joining Tottenham as a 16-year-old, the left-back doesn’t envision himself playing for another club.

Ten years later and nine goals to his name, Rose is the longest-serving member for Spurs after making 126 appearances.

“I’m 26 now and starting to think about if I want to finish my career here and I’d love to do that,” Danny Rose said.

“There won’t be many players able to say that they’ve been at a club for X amount of years.”

“Ledley [King] is a legend. When you see him with the players, some will ask ‘what was he like?’ and there really are no words to describe how Ledley was as a player and as a man.”

Prior to King’s premature retirement in 2012 due to chronic knee problems, the two defenders were considered teammates for five years.

They never played together, due to Rose’s four loan spells, but that didn’t stop Danny Rose from knowing quite a bit about the former captain and now Club Ambassador.

“He was quiet, but a leader,” Rose continued.

“I saw the pain he had to go through to be out there on a Saturday.”

“You wouldn’t believe he’d missed most of the training sessions throughout the week and yet he’d be the best player on the pitch.”

On July 31st, 2014, not too long after Mauricio Pochettino was appointed as Spurs’ new manager, and speaking with Danny Rose, the then-24-year-old signed a five-year-contract before the 2014-15 season kicked off on August 16th.

There’s three years left on his current deal, but it’s to be expected that Danny Rose and Spurs will begin negotiations on another long-term deal if he wishes to end his career with Tottenham.

“I’d love to be able to look back at the end of my career and think I’d been at a club for the whole of my career. That’s the plan.”

“You don’t know what will happen in football but that’s the plan, I want to be here for a long, long time and I hope while I’m here I get to win trophies as well.”

Since Pochettino became manager, he has made Danny Rose into one of the best left-backs in England. Even going as far as to promise Rose that he would become an England international.

That came true in just two years, meaning that Rose right now is at the top of his game.

As a starter for both club and country, the only thing that’s left for the 26-year-old is to remain consistent day in and day out while staying with Spurs and helping the club win trophies.
