DC United Score Late Equalizer to Earn a Point on the Road Against the Chicago Fire
D.C. United came up with a late goal once again to avoid a loss to the Chicago Fire on the road on Friday night.
It was another close encounter for DC United as they avoided a loss to the Fire at Toyota Park. A 92nd minute equalizer proved to be the decisive moment of the match.
How it Happened
The away side had the majority of the early opportunities. Marcelo Sarvas had a golden opportunity to put his side up in the ninth minute, but Sean Johnson came up with a big save to deny the midfielder. Another opportunity would come in the 17th minute when Rob Vincent was step up nicely by Lloyd Sam, however, his shot would go wide left and out of play.
Only a minute later Vincent would get a chance to redeem himself when an indirect free kick was called in the box. An intentional back pass to Johnson warranted the call. Luciano Acosta laid it off for Vincent who smashed it home for the opening goal.

The Fire would answer back just three minutes later when Razvan Cocis directed a corner kick into the back of the net. Arturo Alvarez was the provider of the goal.
David Accam would send the home side in front in the 29th minute with a low driven shot. The Ghanaian midfielder increased his total to eight goals this season for the Fire.
It was a rather uneventful second half, as both sides failed to produce many scoring opportunities. Accam came close to scoring a second in the 51st minute, but his shot went wide right.
The equalizer would come in the second minute of stoppage time as DC United escaped with a point. Patrick Mullins had the initial shot that bounced off the crossbar, and Patrick Nyarko’s follow up effort was spectacularly saved by Johnson. However, Bobby Boswell headed home the rebound and tied the match back up.

DC United will return to action next weekend with a Saturday night clash against Orlando City. The Fire will face New York City F.C. next Friday in the Big Apple.
