Defender Pepe signs new Real Madrid deal
Real Madrid defender Pepe has signed a one-year contract extension, the Spanish side announced Friday.
The Portugal international's previous deal expired in June 2016.
A statement from Real Madrid read: "Pepe has extended his contract for another season and will remain tied to the club until June 30, 2017."
Pepe has made 195 appearances since joining Los Blancos from FC Porto in the summer of 2007 for a fee of 30 million euros.
The 32-year-old centre-back made 25 league starts for Real last season to help the club finished second in La Liga.
Earlier this week, Real extended the contract of Spanish defender Sergio Ramos until June 2020.
Pepe and Ramos are expected to start when Real begin their Primera Division campaign at promoted Sporting Gijon on Sunday.
