English Starlet Dele Alli has signed a contract extension with Tottenham Hotspur to keep him at the North London club until 2022

Dele Alli has become the latest Spur to extend his future at White Hart Lane.

The 20-year-old midfielder has signed his second contract within the past year extending his stay at White Hart Lane for another 6 years. The deal also increases his wages to £50,000/week. The English international arrived from MK Dons in February of 2015 and is now set to stay in North London until 2022.

Alli has enjoyed an incredibly quick rise from the lower leagues of England to Premier League prominence. He only made his Premier League debut last August as a substitute, but quickly became part of the Spurs starting XI. In his 28 appearances last season (23 starts) he managed to net 10 goals and rack up 9 assists.

He also became a major influence in the Spurs midfield serving as a creative playmaker. His ability to pick out passes and play through balls helped creative offense for the squad. He also puts in a good defensive shift, working to make interceptions and tackles in the midfield to break up opponent attacks. All these facts combined led him to a whoscored.com player rating of 7.35 last season, good for 4th on the squad. His play in the midfielder was an integral part to Tottenham’s successful 2015-2016 campaign which saw them finish 3rd in Premier League, qualifying them for Champions League.

Alli’s performances in the campaign earned him the PFA young player of the year award. He was also named in the PFA Premier League team of the year. It also earned him a spot on the 23-man England roster for the 2016 European Championships. He made two starts for his country and managed 1 assist during the tournament. This season Alli has started 4 Premier League fixtures for Tottenham and scored once vs. Stoke City.

He also becomes the 5th Tottenham player to sign a contract extension in the last month. Fellow first-team players Christian Eriksen, Eric Dier, Tom Carroll and Harry Winks have all penned new deals as well. Spurs are also reportedly in talks to extend the contracts of Danny Rose, Jan Vertonghen and Erik Lamela. These contract extension announcements might be non-flashy, but they should excite fans. If they keep this squad at White Hart Lane for the foreseeable future, they should consistently challenge for the Premier League.
