Delirious soccer manager pummels his own player in celebration

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 6:34 p.m. ET

Imagine Liverpool's always animated manager Jurgen Klopp crossed with a UFC fighter, and you'd get Inverness coach John Hughes.

The Scottish manager crossed the thin line between passionate jubilation and uncontrolled, violent celebration after his side scored a late equalizer in the Scottish Cup quarterfinals against Hibernian. His victim: poor, unsuspecting substitute Liam Polworth, who got one right in the kisser just for being the closest one near the adrenaline-fueled Hughes. Ouch!

And that was the last time Polworth would ever jump out of his seat to celebrate.
