Leicester City have confirmed Eduardo Macia as their new Head of Recruitment following Steve Walsh’s departure to Everton.

42 year old Eduardo Macia has been confirmed by Leicester City to be taking over Steve Walsh’s responsibilities for senior player recruitment.

His predecessor left Leicester City in order to become Everton’s new Director of Football, leaving a vacancy to be filled.

Edurardo Macia and foxes boss Claudio Ranieri are by no means strangers.

They pair worked together during Ranieri’s time at Valencia and parted ways when Macia left Spain in order to join Liverpool’s recruitment team.

Many suspect Macia to be behind the unearthing of Liverpool legend Fernando Torres however with all respect to Edurardo, Torres wasn’t an unknown commodity during his time at Atletico so we’ll take that with a pinch of salt.

As of late, Macia has been working in Seville, Spain with Real Betis.

1 year into his 4 year contact, the relationship between Macia and his new found club broke down.

After a falling out with the Real Betis owners in April, the two parted ways.

Speaking to the club’s website, Leicester City Director of Football Jon Rudkin said:

“Eduardo’s appointment follows an extensive process undertaken by the Football Club, to identify a candidate of outstanding experience that would contribute significantly to the long-term development our player recruitment strategy.”
“His expertise and network of contacts will add considerable strength to our existing team of recruitment staff, whose skill and diligence contributed greatly to a successful summer transfer window.”

It wasn’t only Liverpool and Real Betis that Eduardo has worked with in the past.

His CV extends to clubs such as Greek champions Olympiakos and the historic Italian  Fiorentina.

He’ll have a lot to live up to after stepping into Walsh’s shoes but with the transfer window only just closing, Macia will have plenty of time to scout his targets ready for the January window.
