Even the Ireland prime minister is weighing in on the 'horrific' tackle that broke Seamus Coleman's leg
Seamus Coleman suffered breaks to his right tibia and fibula in Ireland's 0-0 draw with Wales in World Cup qualifying on Friday. The fullback was taken down by Neil Taylor, whose awful tackle caused the injury and earned the Welshman a red card. Now, Coleman is facing a long time on the sidelines, having already undergone surgery on his leg.
Unsurprisingly, most everyone from Ireland was horrified at the tackle and, understandably, very angry. That includes Ireland prime minister Enda Kenny.
“I thought it was a horrific tackle, a compound fracture, of the Irish captain. It’s a very, very bad blow for Seamus Coleman,” Kenny said. “I hope the surgeons can mend that in a way that he can continue to play again, which is obviously a great challenge for him.
“It’s not usual to find that level of ferocity in tackles in the beautiful game these days, so good luck to Seamus in his recovery.”
When even the prime minister is chiming in, you know a tackle was bad and Taylor's tackle most definitely was that. Now it looks like he's going to be rightfully suspended, not that Taylor absence will do much to comfort Coleman, Ireland or Everton. The fullback is going to miss a lot more than however many matches Taylor is banned.
