Even Wayne Rooney's son thinks Jamie Vardy is better than his dad
Well, this has got to hurt.
Wayne Rooney must already know that his starting spot with England is in serious danger ahead of Euro 2016. Both Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane are still firing on all cylinders while Rooney himself has been on the shelf nursing a knee injury since mid-February.
But now, Rooney has found out he's been usurped in his own house, too. The Man United captain revealed on ITV during its coverage of Tuesday's friendly vs the Netherlands that his son asked him for a new England shirt ... with Vardy's name on the back!
Ouuuuuuch.
Everyone on the set laughed, but you know that deep down, that's got to kill Rooney a little bit.
Vardy, who scored his first two international goals for England over the past few days -- one in Saturday's wild 3-2 comeback win in Germany, the other in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Netherlands -- has a bonafide claim for a spot in Roy Hodgson's XI after already having fired Leicester atop the Premier League with 19 goals this season.
One can't imagine Hodgson leaving Kane out of the first-team, either. The Tottenham striker is the only one who's scored more than Vardy, leading the EPL with 21 goals. Kane has validated his amazing breakthrough 2014/15 season with an even better one this year.
That leaves Rooney the odd man out, unless of course Hodgson gets creative and puts his captain in the midfield.
"It [competition for places] excites me," Rooney later said. "First of all I want England to be successful and win trophies It's an opportunity for us to do really well in the summer. The decision is down to Roy Hodgson but I want to be there, I want to be involved, and help lead this team to be successful."
Rooney will definitely still be involved in the team, but if he can't even be his son's favorite, how can he expect to be Hodgson's?
